I recently moved away from my friends and as we approach our thirties, we're all busy with life, family, jobs, etc. We can't revel like we used to, and work is a larger priority. However, in my free time, I find myself bored with the same old hobbies or simply too broke to "get out". Since my job entails a great deal of editing, I decided that I need to start writing myself. What better way than to start a blog?
I wanted my first blog to be about something that matters, or to be a question that people might be able to help me with. "Who should I vote for?" might be a good start, since I've never really been this interested in an election before. I definitely think we need change and there are only three candidates who appeal to me: Edwards, Hillary, and Obama. But after watching the "debates" last night on MSNBC, I still have no idea who to vote for. The first round of questions were race and gender based (which really upset one audience member who should have been tased for the disruption). We can't ignore the race/gender issue, so I think they were important questions. As a white male myself, I can't help but feel these issues play a role in the decision. Plus, there doesn't seem to be much difference between the three...right? Maybe.
During the debates, Clinton seemed in charged for the most part, but she did take a couple blows about fear tactics and lobbying that may have hurt her. I like the fact that she has experience, but I don't know if I believe her. She's a bit of a robot. I like Edwards and his ideas, but he too seemed robotic and safe. Obama is apparently a "flip flopper" too, but he seems like an intelligent leader who is open to new ideas, which is quite possibly what this country needs. Plus, the "Yes, We Can" speech made me want to cry*. However, an MSNBC political analysis said that Obama wouldn't stand a chance against a Republican. Even though they really don't have a strong candidate, I wonder if this is true. Is a vote for Obama a vote for a Republican? I really don't know what to do. Is Nader running? What about Kucinich? A triumvirate?
*I know I shouldn't vote for someone based on his orating skills, but isn't it refreshing to hear Obama speak? We've had to listen to a bumbling idiot for the last seven years, so forgive me if Obama's speeches inspire me.
UPDATE: Bill Clinton was in my town today and about an hour after I posted this, my wife sent me a multimedia picture of him and wrote, "I got pics and a hug." Damn it, Slick Willy hugged my wife! He told her, "Good to see you. I'm really glad you're here." What a pimp.
